Founder, Manager & Lead Guide

Born in Tanzania, John is the man who started Motor Adventures more than 30 years ago. What began as his own adventure company has grown into the Motor Adventures of today. Although John is no longer the owner, he remains very much at the heart of the operation as our manager and lead guide.

Before Motor Adventures, John spent 16 years working in the offshore diving industry. His years at sea gave him extensive experience in challenging environments, along with hyperbaric medical training. He also holds a Wilderness Medical Certificate, and safety is something he takes particularly seriously when travelling through the remote mountains and deserts of Morocco.

John is responsible for finding, checking and developing many of the routes used on our tours. He spends countless hours exploring Morocco’s tracks, trails and lesser-known corners, then plots the routes for the GPS navigation systems used on our bikes and buggies. It’s a job that conveniently gives him a very good excuse to disappear into the mountains and desert in search of the next great trail.

On our off-road tours, John is the “gaffer”. Depending on the tour, you’ll find him leading the way on a motorbike, guiding from a buggy or providing 4×4 support alongside one of our mechanics. With more than three decades of experience running adventures in Morocco, his knowledge of the terrain, routes and off-road travel is difficult to match.

Long before Motor Adventures, John spent two years riding solo from London to Cape Town in the early 1990s, so Africa and motorcycles have been part of his story for quite some time.

He also speaks a reasonable smattering of various languages and, apparently, is a very experienced off-road rider.
