Has our 8-Day Sahara Experience in Morocco sparked your sense of adventure? You’re not alone. This is the most popular of our Morocco motorbike, buggy, and 4WD tours, and it’s our signature experience for a reason. Big landscapes, varied terrain, and a proper sense of challenge draw riders from all over the world.
Eight days in the Sahara is a real adventure. It pushes your skills, builds confidence, and gives you a deep feel for Morocco’s wild spaces. A little preparation makes all the difference, though. This guide covers what you need to know before you go.

Know the Route: What the 8-Day Sahara Tour Looks Like
The 8-Day Sahara Experience covers roughly 1,250 to 1,500 km of mixed and off-road terrain. To give you a clear picture, the route typically includes:
- Desert pistes that let you open up the throttle
- Rocky sections that test balance and line choice
- A climb into the Atlas Mountains, reaching an elevation of 2,400m
- High mountain passes with awe-inspiring views
- Soft sand and towering dunes at Erg Chebbi
- Dry river beds and uneven natural terrain
- Drives through traditional Berber settlements and nomadic villages
The Sahara Experience in Morocco is open to motorbikes, buggies, and 4WDs, all of which are well-suited to the diverse terrain. Whichever vehicle you choose, you will enjoy a desert adventure like no other!

What Experience Do You Need for an 8-day Sahara Tour?
You don’t need to be a rally pro, but you should be comfortable off-road. If you’ve ridden gravel tracks, rocky trails, or loose surfaces before, you’ll feel at home here. Being able to read terrain helps, especially when conditions change quickly. Sand experience is a bonus, but not essential. Many of our guests build confidence as the tour progresses.
More than anything, mindset matters. Long days, changing conditions, and new challenges are all part of the journey. A positive, adaptable attitude goes a long way. Even a short off-road practice ride before travelling can make the early days feel easier.

Physical and Mental Preparation for an 8-day Sahara Tour
Physical Prep
On off-road days, you’ll be riding or driving for most of the day. Even with breaks, the distance and focus required can be tiring. A basic level of fitness helps you enjoy the experience more.
Useful preparation includes:
- Understand that you will be riding or driving for several hours at a time before the tour.
- Work on cardio. Good stamina makes the long days feel smoother.
- Build core and leg strength. They do most of the work – not only when standing on a motorbike, but also in the buggy.
- Get in the habit of hydrating regularly. The desert is dry, and you lose fluids faster than you might think.

Mental Prep
The Sahara rewards calm riding and driving. You’ll deal with heat, wind, sand, and constant terrain changes. Some sections flow quickly; others demand patience.
Staying relaxed keeps the group moving safely and smoothly. Most of our guests say the real reward comes from the steady progress as the days pass. Take it one day at a time and enjoy each stage for what it is.

What to Pack for an 8-day Sahara Tour: Essential Gear and Kit
Packing always has a personal element, but some items are essential. The Sahara Experience in Morocco tour page includes a full “Recommended Clothing & Accessories” section, which should be your main reference.
For the motorbikes, as a general guide, you’ll need:
- Capacete MX integral com óculos de proteção ou viseira
- Armadura corporal
- Knee and elbow protection
- botas MX
- Camisa e calças MX
- Luvas
- Sistema de hidratação
- Breathable riding gear
Desert extras like a buff or dust mask, sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm, and lightweight layers make a big difference to comfort. A buff will be provided for you.
For buggy drivers, we advise travelling light.
Please note that you are welcome to bring your own helmet. However, we have a sufficient number of cross helmets available in various sizes. Buffs/bandanas, goggles, and gloves will also be provided.
Please bring long-sleeve shirts and long trousers to protect you from flying gravel. We also recommend a windstopper, fleece, or something equally warm, as desert nights and early mornings can be cold.
For 4WD travellers, we also recommend travelling light.
Everything will get dusty, so avoid bringing unnecessary items or valuables. Soft bags are preferable to hard suitcases. Pack only what you need and choose clothing and gear that you don’t mind getting dusty.
You’ll also need personal medication, basic first-aid items, charging cables, a power bank, copies of travel documents, and emergency contact details. Once you’ve booked, we’ll help you double-check everything before you travel.

Health, Safety, and Logistics — What to Know Before You Head to Morocco
Early starts avoid the hottest part of the day, and this is all managed by our guides. A support vehicle with a driver and mechanic travels with the group, carrying luggage and equipment and assisting with any issues. It’s fully equipped with tools, medical gear, GPS, and communications equipment. We treat safety on our tours as the ultimate priority.
